Why do international work?

Christians believe that God rules over the whole world, and that his gift of salvation - given by grace and received by faith - is for everyone, first for the Jew, then for the Gentile. As followers of Christ, we have been given a great commission to make disciples of all nations, and what better way to do this than to introduce Jesus to international students whilst they are here at Catz! We need to make an extra effort to befriend and to show practical love to those from overseas because they may find it hard to adapt to our reserved British culture. We also need to preach the gospel in a simple and clear manner that will breach the cultural and linguistic divide, making Jesus known to international students personally.

As a college group, we also consider the advance of the gospel at the global scale through regular prayer. Each week, we spend some time exploring worldwide mission in various forms, and we pray for specific countries or organisations (such as IFES), as well as for those with whom we have links - such as former Catharians now serving in Thailand!

Please do contact the Int Rep if you have any ideas about how to serve God and the international students in Catz, or would like to find out more about mission, or have an idea for the international slot in College group.

Things to get involved in

Compass Café [Henry Martyn Hall, 1700-1900 Fridays]

Compass Café is a coffee bar run for international language students in Cambridge. It is run by Christian students from the university. It's a great opportunity for these students to make lots of new friends from the university and all over the world, learning about Jesus and reading about him in the Bible. They run optional Bible studies, which anybody is welcome to come to, even they've never heard of Jesus or don't believe in Him.

More information is available on the Compass Café's website.

International Breakfasts [St Andrew the Great, See CICCU Website]

International Breakfasts are an opportunity to hear and pray about God's work around the world over breakfast. It's also a great way to hear about the different opportunities there are for short or long term missionaries in lots of countries, often straight from the people who work out there. World Evangelism Prayer Groups [Location and time flexible]

World Evangelism Prayer Groups are an opportunity to be involved in God's work worldwide through His church. They are a reminder that Christ's commission is to make disciples not only in Cambridge but all over the world.

World Evangelism Prayer Groups change the World! Where were you on holiday this year? As your suntan fades, come and intercede for something that will last forever instead. No expertise required!

Specific prayer groups are on the CICCU International page.
